LONDON: John Isner needed 41 aces in his last outing - Wimbledon second-round match against Andy Murray - to break Ivo Karlovic's world record of 13,728 aces.

The 37-year-old American, ranked No. 24, who hadn't beaten Murray in eight previous meetings, might've turned tables on the three-time Grand Slam champion, but only managed 36 aces leaving him five off the mark. "I'll get it in my next match over the course of five sets," Isner said, following his 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 6-4 win over Murray.

"It's actually a pretty cool record. It's not going to put me in the Hall of Fame or anything like that, but I will be the all-time leader."

"It's something I'm really proud of," said the American, who faces the tenth-seed Jannik Sinner next. "I knew at some point last year," the 6 ft 10' Isner said. "I knew I would eventually track Ivo down."
