Lesia Tsurenko triumphs in record 38-point Grand Slam tie-break

NEW DELHI: Lesia Tsurenko from Ukraine achieved a place in the fourth round of Wimbledon in London on Friday after winning the longest tie-break ever recorded in a Grand Slam women's singles match.

The decisive tie-break stretched to an extraordinary 38 points as the 34-year-old emerged victorious over Romania's Ana Bogdan with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (20/18), securing her spot in the last 16.


In an intense match that lasted three hours and 40 minutes on Court 14, Tsurenko saved five match points before eventually clinching the victory on her seventh match point.

Both players required medical timeouts during the final set and also struggled with cramping, adding to the physical challenges faced throughout the match.
