The Czech player, who made history last year as the first unseeded woman to claim the championship, was defeated 6-4 6-2 by Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, reported Reuters.

Despite having only one tour-level victory to her name this year prior to Wimbledon, world number 83 Bouzas Maneiro secured her maiden win at any Grand Slam event with a decisive backhand down the line.

The Spaniard consistently struck the ball well throughout the unexceptional Centre Court encounter, capitalizing on the numerous unforced errors that plagued the defending champion's performance.

Hindered by a hip injury that hampered her preparation, sixth-seeded Vondrousova now departs the tournament prematurely.

Bouzas Maneiro, on the other hand, advances to the second round, where she will face either fellow Spaniard Cristina Bucsa or Romania's Ana Bogdan.
