NEW DELHI: N Sriram Balaji secured his first-ever French Open pre-quarterfinals berth alongside his Mexican partner Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela Martinez, defeating Dan Added and Theo Arribage in a three-set match on Saturday. The duo emerged victorious with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 after a one hour and 42-minute battle against their French opponents.
Balaji, who is likely to be selected as Rohan Bopanna's partner for the Paris Olympics doubles team, and Martinez had previously defeated American Reese Stalder and Dutch player Sem Verbeek in straight sets, marking Balaji's first win at the clay Grand Slam.
In the upcoming pre-quarterfinals, Balaji and Martinez could potentially face Australian Open champions Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, provided the latter pair wins their second-round match.
Unfortunately, Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti were eliminated in the first round on Friday.
