NEW DELHI: In an exciting match under the roof on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, fifth seed Daniil Medvedev defeated Tomas Machac 7-6(4), 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 to advance into the French Open last 16.

Machac, known for his recent upset victory over world number one Novak Djokovic at the Geneva Open, provided tough competition to Medvedev in a match that lasted nearly 3-1/2 hours.

After securing the first two sets, Medvedev faced a setback as he lost focus and surrendered the third set to Machac, who capitalized on a break to win six consecutive games, much to the delight of the crowd on a rainy day in Paris.

However, Medvedev regrouped in the fourth set and managed to outplay Machac in crucial moments, eventually sealing the victory despite the Czech player's bold attempts to force a decider.
