NEW DELHI: In a grueling match, world number four Alexander Zverev defeated Tallon Griekspoor 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3) in the French Open third round, advancing his quest for a first Grand Slam title. Zverev, a semi-finalist in the last three years, faced a tough challenge after losing the opening set to the Dutch 26th seed.

After leveling the match by breaking serve at 5-4 in the second set, Zverev dominated the third set. Griekspoor's medical timeout suggested Zverev was on course for a straightforward victory.

However, the Dutch player fought back, taking the fourth set and building a 4-1 lead in the fifth.

Zverev responded with four consecutive games to turn the tide. Griekspoor managed to force a tiebreak, but Zverev ultimately secured the win with an ace, concluding the enthralling match that lasted over four hours on Court Philippe Chatrier.
