NEW DELHI: The 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris are set to commence on August 28, with India fielding a record-breaking contingent of 84 para athletes. Throughout the history of the Summer Paralympics, India has secured a total of 31 medals, comprising nine gold, 12 silver, and 10 bronze.
Athletics has been India's most successful event, accounting for 18 of the country's medals (four gold, nine silver, and five bronze).
India won 19 medals, including five gold, at the previous edition of the Games, and the country hopes to increase this to at least 25, with a double-digit haul of gold medals.
India's confidence has been bolstered by its outstanding performance at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou the previous year, where the nation clinched an unprecedented 111 medals, including 29 gold.
The prestigious event, which will feature over 4,000 athletes with various physical and intellectual disabilities, is scheduled to conclude on September 8.
