NEW DELHI: In a captivating and suspenseful Olympic men's 100 metres final on Sunday, American sprinter Noah Lyles emerged victorious by the slimmest of margins, clocking a time of 9.79 seconds.

Kishane Thompson of Jamaica secured the silver medal, finishing in an identical time to Lyles. Fred Kerley, also representing the United States, claimed the bronze with a time of 9.81 seconds, Reuters reported.


The race showcased the incredible talent and competitiveness of these elite athletes, as they pushed themselves to the limit in pursuit of Olympic glory.

Lyles became the first American to claim the title since Justin Gatlin's triumph in 2004. As his name flashed atop the leaderboard, Lyles celebrated by raising his arms, eliciting enthusiastic cheers from the capacity crowd at the Stade de France.


Despite a relatively slow start out of the blocks compared to his competitors, Lyles showcased his exceptional speed by accelerating through the finish line.

His incredible performance allowed him to secure the win by an astonishingly narrow margin of just five thousandths of a second.
