Penguins’ Sidney Crosby Set to Face Carolina Hurricanes for the First Time Since His Olympic Injury

After a long wait and putting an end to all speculation, Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby is set to face the Carolina Hurricanes for the first time since his Olympic injury. This was announced by the Penguins management on Wednesday that he will be seen against the Hurricanes at the Lenovo Center.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are continuing with the NHL playoff race, despite having played three weeks without Crosby. However, their wait seems to be over as the player will take over tonight against the Hurricanes.

According to earlier reports, Crosby has been sidelined from the team since suffering a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee while playing for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics, an injury later revealed by teammate Mitch Marner after weeks of organizational silence. Since sustaining a lower-body injury in the 2026 Winter Olympics quarterfinal against Czechia, Crosby is making his first official appearance at the Lenovo Center.

After a long hiatus from the club, Penguins’ Sidney Crosby is all set to make his first appearance since his Olympic injury. This was confirmed by the head coach of the Penguins, Dan Muse, that he will play against the Carolina Hurricanes.

According to reports, while representing Team Canada, the legend suffered a lower-body injury during the 2026 Winter Olympics following a sequence with Radko Gudas. Following the incident, the Penguins later placed the 38-year-old on injured reserve and announced he would miss at least four weeks as he recovers.

It is to be noted that Gudas is also currently under scrutiny due to his five-game suspension for hitting Auston Matthews this week.


Announcing the same on Twitter/X account, the Penguins stated, “HE’S BAAAAAAACK! Coach Muse confirms that Sidney Crosby will play tonight versus Carolina. Crosby leads the @penguins in goals (27) and points (59) despite missing the last 11 games due to injury.”

Crosby is having another strong season, scoring 27 goals and 32 assists over 56 games before Milano Cortina 2026. Meanwhile, the Penguins are currently second in the Metro Division, but with no room to breathe. They are tied in points with the New York Islanders (81 each), and just one point ahead of the wild card teams, the Boston Bruins and the New York Islanders.

However, with Crosby’s return to the team, hopes are restored that his contribution might help the Penguins in the remaining 15 games.
