Seven Chilean Nationals Charged in Burglaries of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow’s Homes

In a major crackdown, seven Chilean citizens have been charged in relation to a string of high-profile break-ins of the residences of some of the most prominent NFL and NBA players, such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida revealed the unsealing of a criminal complaint on February 18, 2025, of the charges against the suspects, alleged members of a South American Theft Group (SATG).

Criminal Group Used NFL Players' Schedules to Plan Multi-Million Dollar Home Burglaries

Between the months of October and December 2024, this organized group was charged with masterminding burglaries in several states, targeting athletes' homes when they were away playing games.




The perpetrators allegedly made extensive use of publicly available game schedules to determine when the players would be away from their homes. Their systematic operation involved sharing duties among members, including renting cars, finding temporary housing, and obtaining false identification to help advance their venture.

High-Profile Victims and High-Ranking Losses

The houses of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, both major Kansas City Chiefs players, were broken into early October of 2024. Mahomes' house in Belton, Missouri, was hit around midnight on October 6, and a burglary at Kelce's home in Leawood, Kansas, occurred on October 7, the night of a Chiefs game against the New Orleans Saints. The robbers allegedly stole jewelry, watches, cash, and other high-end items.

In December 2024, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was a victim of the same type of burglary at his Ohio residence. The accused allegedly swiped around $300,000 worth of items, including customized diamond-encrusted necklaces. With impunity, the suspects took selfies bragging about the stolen items, which were subsequently recovered by the investigating team.

Other victims include Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Memphis Grizzlies players, with stolen assets valuing over $2 million.




The seven defendants are:

• Pablo Zuniga Cartes, age 24
• Ignacio Zuniga Cartes, age 20
• Bastian Jimenez Freraut, age 27
• Jordan Quiroga Sanchez, age 22
• Bastian Orellano Morales, age 23
• Alexander Huiaguil Chavez, age 24
• Sergio Ortega Cabello, age 38

They are accused of conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property, for which they could face up to 10 years in federal prison if convicted.

A Broader Pattern of 'Crime Tourism'

This case fits into a larger trend described as "crime tourism," in which South American organized groups come to the United States on tourist visas intending to commit burglaries. Such groups tend to target wealthy neighborhoods and use publicly available information to choose opportune times for their crimes.

The arrests are a harsh reminder to high-profile individuals to be careful about their personal security and the possible danger of sharing personal information and schedules publicly.
