NEW DELHI: Patrick Mahomes Sr, the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has been arrested in Texas on his third charge of driving while intoxicated (DUI), according to jail records. The arrest comes just days before the younger Mahomes is set to lead the Chiefs into the highly anticipated Super Bowl showdown against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.

Patrick Mahomes Sr, aged 54, was apprehended on Saturday night in Tyler, Texas, with his bond set at $10,000. He was subsequently released on Sunday. If found guilty, Mahomes Sr could face up to 10 years in jail.

This is not the first time Mahomes Sr has faced legal issues related to DUI. In 2019, he was arrested on the same charge and subsequently sentenced to 40 days in jail, as indicated by records. Notably, Patrick Mahomes Sr had a successful career as a pitcher in Major League Baseball, playing for teams such as the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Texas Rangers during his 11-season tenure.

The arrest of Mahomes Sr adds a layer of complexity to the narrative surrounding the Chiefs' Super Bowl preparations. Patrick Mahomes Jr, who is expected to be a focal point during Super Bowl media night on Monday, may face questions regarding the potential distraction caused by his father's legal issues.

While Mahomes Jr has yet to comment on the situation, the arrest has undoubtedly created a challenging backdrop for the Chiefs as they aim to secure back-to-back Super Bowl championships.
