NEW DELHI: Joe Flacco has become a symbol of resilience and determination in Cleveland, leading the Browns to their second playoff berth in 21 years just five weeks after joining the team. While Flacco's exceptional performance could make him a strong contender for the NFL Comeback Player of the Year in a typical year, he faces stiff competition in a season filled with remarkable stories.

The 38-year-old quarterback signed with the Browns on Nov. 20 and quickly found himself thrust into the starting lineup, contributing to key victories against Jacksonville and Chicago. Flacco's comeback journey gained momentum, and by Week 15, he entered the Comeback Player of the Year race at BetMGM with odds at +1200, placing him second only to Buffalo's Damar Hamlin at -600.

Hamlin, the favored candidate, faced a life-threatening situation when he went into cardiac arrest following a tackle in a game against Cincinnati on Jan. 2. Miraculously, he returned to the active roster and has played a crucial role on special teams for the Buffalo Bills.

Throughout the season, various players have made runs at Hamlin's favored status. Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Denver quarterback Russell Wilson had their moments in the spotlight, but Flacco's consistent and impressive performances set him apart.

Flacco's odds surged to +115 after the Browns' decisive 37-20 victory over the New York Jets on Thursday night, securing Cleveland's spot in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Hamlin's odds shifted from -450 to -155 by the end of Week 17, making him the current favorite at BetMGM.

The debate for the Comeback Player of the Year title remains intense, with Hamlin leading the race at DraftKings with -150 odds, closely followed by Flacco (+100) and Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield (+1000). Wilson, no longer on the BetMGM board, is listed as a +30000 longshot at DraftKings.

Flacco's spirited run up the betting boards may face challenges as Cleveland concludes its regular season against Cincinnati in Week 18. However, a victory against their rivals could further fuel the debate and highlight Flacco's remarkable comeback story.

Hamlin, 25, has two remaining games with the Bills, expected to continue his special teams role. His mere presence on the field is an extraordinary accomplishment after spending six days in the hospital following the cardiac incident in January. Hamlin returned to the preseason in August, showcasing remarkable resilience and determination throughout the season.
