Amazon MGM drops ‘Madden’ teaser, reveals Nicolas Cage as iconic NFL legend John Madden

Amazon MGM Studios has officially kicked off its marketing around one of its most intriguing upcoming sports biopics. Released on Christmas Day, the first teaser for Madden gives fans an early glimpse of Nicolas Cage stepping into the role of John Madden, the legendary coach of the Oakland Raiders and one of the best of all time.

Cage is seen making an almost unrecognizable transformation for the role. The film teases a story that is not just about the game itself but about how a simple man from humble beginnings became one of the greats. With a planned release window late next year, anticipation is already building across both the NFL and film fans alike.

Directed by David O. Russell, known for The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, Madden will follow John Madden’s journey from his early coaching roots to leading the Oakland Raiders. It led to a Super Bowl victory in 1976, becoming a defining moment that cemented his football legacy.


The film will also explore how Madden became one of the most recognizable voices in sports broadcasting in his later life. Nicolas Cage’s transformation into Madden is spot-on, and the actor looks the part, capturing the coach’s larger-than-life personality

Oscar-winner Christian Bale takes on the role of former Raiders owner Al Davis, promising a compelling portrayal of one of the NFL’s most complex partnerships. The supporting cast includes Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis.

The Hollywood Reporter also claims that the project will serve more as an origin story for Madden NFL, now one of the most successful video game franchises in history. Produced under the Amazon MGM Studios banner, Madden is set to be released during Thanksgiving 2026, although it is not known whether it will be given a theatrical release or go straight to Prime Video.
