Speaking on The Herd, Brady explained how it becomes excruciating for players to keep trying to be relevant and physically consistent with time.


He told Colin Cowherd, “Everyone loves the hype of the first four miles and the glory of the last two. But the middle 20 miles, the preparation, the maintenance, the year-round grind are what truly test your soul.” He is pointing to the constant grind and the physical toll that players go through as they try to maintain the legacy they’ve created.

Brady admitted his final season was emotionally and physically demanding, even with the achievements he has. Rodgers now faces that same puzzling situation after his recent performance, as continuing means dealing more with the physical wear and tear that comes with the game at 42.

For Pittsburgh, Rodgers’ decision will ripple through every plan they make this offseason. A potential return signals another year of belief in the veteran’s capabilities that have defined him over the years, while retirement will be a reset as the team looks for the next franchise quarterback.
