One fan claimed that his 12-year-old brother is undergoing chemotherapy and was expecting a meaningful time with Iverson but that did not happen.



Apparently Iverson allegedly arrived well past the scheduled time and was in a separate room until about 12:30 p.m. instead of greeting families. Security reportedly told attendees Iverson was “having a bad day” and didn’t want to come out. Promised autographs and conversations did not happen. Families say no memorabilia was signed. The only interaction was a brief group photo with Iverson allegedly keeping his hands in pockets and not engaging.

Charity organisers express disappointment over the interaction

The event was organised in partnership with Challenge, a Melbourne-based not-for-profit supporting children and families living with cancer. In a statement given to Fox Sports Australia, Challenge CEO David Rogers said the organisation was “deeply disappointed with the meet-and-greet involving Allen Iverson,” adding that staff had tried to manage on-site logistics and communications but ultimately felt families were let down.

• Former NBA and Australian star Andrew Bogut took to social media and called Iverson an “absolute shit human” for his alleged treatment at the event.
• Other Australian basketball figures, including Chris Anstey and Jason Cadee, criticised aspects of Iverson’s behaviour during his tour, noting late appearances or cancellations at public events.

As of now, Allen Iverson and his representatives have not issued a public statement addressing the specific claims from the Melbourne event.
