NEW DELHI: The Miami Heat have bolstered their backcourt by acquiring guard Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets.

Reports indicate that the Hornets are sending Rozier to the Heat in exchange for veteran guard Kyle Lowry and a 2027 first-round pick. The first-round pick is reportedly lottery-protected in 2027.

Miami add a dynamic playmaking and scoring guard in Rozier, who is currently enjoying a career-best season, averaging 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Rozier has showcased efficiency, shooting 45.9% overall and 35.8% from beyond the arc this season.

In return, the Hornets acquire Kyle Lowry, who joined the Heat via a sign-and-trade deal in 2021. However, Lowry's production has slowed compared to his All-Star days with the Toronto Raptors.

This season, Lowry is averaging 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game, shooting 42.6% overall and 38.5% from 3-point range.

The addition of Rozier addresses Miami's offensive struggles this season, aiming to enhance their performance in various statistical categories. As part of the trade, the Hornets may explore options with Lowry before the February 8 deadline, with no plans for a buyout. The move reflects the Heat's commitment to fortifying their roster for a competitive playoff run.
