PUDUCHERRY:
Puducherry boys bagged the 7th national junior and sub-junior
volleyball
championships for the deaf held at Calicut in
Kerala. Puducherry girls finished runners-up in the national sub-junior championships.
The boys' and girls' teams comprised differently-abled students of Anandha Rangapillai government special higher secondary school. Puducherry junior boys outplayed Gujarat in the finals of the championship while Puducherry sub-junior boys overcame stiff competition from Kerala to lift the sub-junior national title.
Puducherry sub-junior girls went down fighting against Kerala in the finals and must be content with the runners-up title.
Last year Puducherry girls won the junior national volleyball championship for the deaf held at Chennai. Puducherry sub-junior girls finished runners-up in the nationals last year.
Welfare minister M Kandasamy, secretary (welfare) R Alice Vaz, director (social welfare) K Sarangapani and deputy director cum field officer D Kalavathi lauded the students for their achievement and team coach S Santhosh and special teachers M Shanmugavelu, S Lourdes Seliane Eliza and A Vasanthimala for their guidance.
