Asian Championships: Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda clinches maiden gold in trap

On a day when India’s biggest hope, Manu Bhaker, had to return without a medal in the 25m pistol event, Neeru Dhanda lit up the scene by winning gold in women’s trap event at the Asian Championships in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Monday.

With the medal, Neeru, 25, became India’s first woman shooter to top the podium at the Asian Championships in trap category.In another extraordinary show, the junior women swept the podium in the 25m pistol event. Payal Khatri won gold with a score of 36, beating Naamya Kapoor for silver (30). The bronze was won by Tejaswini, who shot 27.

Meanwhile, in the senior 25m pistol event, there was heartbreak in store for the Indians, as Paris Games double medallist Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh had to return empty handed.
