MANGALURU: Two swimmers from Puttur, Thrishul Gowda and Sweekrith Anand along with their coach Rohith P have got selected for the World Lifesaving Championship to be held at Adelaide, Australia in November 2018. However, due to financial constraints their opportunity to participate in this meet looks bleak.
Participating in this meet could highlight the need for setting up a Surflife Saving club in the beaches of Mangaluru.

Hence, well-wishers have started requesting philanthropists to chip in their contributions to help the talented boys and their coach travel to Adelaide. They need Rs 1.5 lakh each to travel and participate in the event at Adelaide.
Thrishul and Sweekrith had recently participated in the selection time trails for World Lifesaving Championship that was conducted by Rashtriya Lifesaving Society (India) at Yerawada Divisional Sports Complex in Pune on September 21. Thrishul, 17, a II PU Commerce student of St Philomena College, has been qualified in 200 meters super lifesaver,50 meters manikin carry and 100 meters manikin tow and beach events. Thrishul, whose father is employed at the Balavana Swimming Pool in Puttur as a watchman, had won a total of 10 medals at the Rescue India- 2017 Championship in under 16 category.
Sweekrith, 26, who has been running a digital printing business, was selected for 200 obstacle swim, 100 manikin carry with fins and beach events.
Rohith P, along with coaches Partha Varanashi, director, Surf Lifesaving, India (affiliated to Rashtriya Life Saving Society (India), and Niroop GR, centre head for RSLSS (I) Mangaluru, have been imparting free training on beach safety, CPR and surf lifesaving for fishermen kids, local and other school kids around Mangaluru since three years.
Rohith said both Thrishul and Sweekrit have put lot of efforts to qualify for the event. "We are extremely happy to know about our selections. However, pooling money for the trip at a short notice is indeed a tough task. We are not able to reach out to the government too since there is no time. Hence, we are hoping for sponsorships," he added.
Swimmers and the coach now request donors to send contributions to Puttur Aquatic Club, Account Number: 0615101076061, Canara Bank, Puttur, IFSC Code: CNRB0000615 and MICR Code 575015040. Contact: 9480288744.
