NAGPUR: Maharashtra’s buzzing young talented paddlers, Jennifer Varghese and Taneesha Kotecha, played well in tandem as the Nagpur-Nashik express derailed international medal-winning players to emerge as the new women’s doubles champions in the 51st All-India Inter Institutional Table Tennis Championships at Chandigarh on Friday.
Representing Maharashtra in the institutional tournament organised under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), the Nagpur and Nashik duo triumphed over the accomplished doubles pairs from Airport Authority of India and Railway Sports Promotion Board.
The tournament featured elite Indian paddlers including Sreeja Akula, Ayhika Mukherjee, and Sutirtha Mukherjee amongst others.
In the title clash, the teenage duo of Jennifer (16) and Taneesha (18) outclassed the AAI pair of Oishiki Joardar and Swastika Ghosh in straight games 11-8, 11-1, 11-7 to emerge as the new women's doubles champions.
Jennifer said, "I am delighted with my performance in the women's doubles event. After experiencing early exits in the women's singles and mixed doubles, the title came as a relief."
Subsequently, Swastika Ghosh claimed the women's singles championship whilst G Sathiyan secured his fourth men's singles title.

Women’s Singles (Round 2): Avisha Karmakar (AAI) bt Jennifer Varghese 9-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8, 14-12.
