Eugenio Suárez, a seasoned 32-year-old infielder, emerged as an All-Star for the Cincinnati Reds in 2018 and has consistently showcased power-hitting prowess throughout the past decade. Amassing an impressive 246 home runs since 2012, Suárez's arrival addresses a specific need for the Diamondbacks at third base. During the previous season, third base duties were primarily handled by Evan Longoria and Emmanuel Rivera.
Suárez's addition brings an additional power bat to the reigning National League champions. In the 2022 season with the Mariners, he posted a batting average of .232 while recording 22 home runs and 96 RBIs. Suárez demonstrated versatility by contributing at both third base and as a designated hitter.
In return for Suárez, the Diamondbacks part ways with Carlos Vargas, a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher who made his debut in the big leagues with Arizona during the recent season, featuring in five games. Additionally, the 30-year-old Seby Zavala, a veteran backup catcher with experience at the Chicago White Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks over the past three seasons, is included in the trade package.
