Veda Paresh Sarfare, a toddler from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, has become India's youngest swimmer to complete 100 meters at the age of 1 year, 9 months, and 10 days. She accomplished this feat on November 1, 2025, swimming four laps in 10 minutes and 8 seconds, receiving official recognition from the India Book of Records.
The India Book of Records confirmed her achievement in an email dated November 25, stating: "Your skills have been recognized, and after thorough verification by the Editorial Board of the India Book of Records, we have selected and approved only the best."
The email further read, "The record for swimming 100 metres was set by Veda Paresh Sarfare, born on January 22, 2024, of Ratnagiri. She swam 100 metres (4 laps) across the length of a swimming pool measuring 25 metres - 22 metres in 10 minutes and 8 seconds at the municipal swimming pool."
Veda's swimming journey began at 9 months old when she watched her elder brother's swimming lessons at Ratnagiri's government swimming pool.
Coaches Mahesh Milke and his wife Gauri trained her for 11 months, focusing on buoyancy, breath control, stamina, and safety. They started with shallow-end training before advancing to full laps.
Coach Milke shared: "With hard work and consistent training, this 21-month-old has imprinted her mark as the 'Youngest Swimmer' nationally." He described her achievement as a "proud milestone for Ratnagiri," acknowledging the support from her parents, Paresh and her mother.
Videos of Veda completing her record-breaking swim have gained significant attention on social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, with thousands of views and shares.
