M set a meet record in boys U-20 long jump event on the penultimate day of the 33rd Coromandel National Junior Athletics Championships at

on Sunday.

State champion Sreeshankar killed the competition by leaping to a distance of 7.72m in the first attempt to better six-year-old meet record of 7.57 set by Ankit Sharma in Ranchi. Kerala made it 1-2 when Muhammad Salih KK won silver with a distance of 7.56 while T Chinnadevan (7.37m) of Tamil Nadu went home with the bronze medal.

Kerala athletes made a rich haul of 9 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals on the fourth day. Anandhu Vijayan started the gold hunt when he bagged the boys U-18 400m hurdles clocking 53.33s.

In girls 400m hurdles events, Kerala extended their domination bagging both the gold and silver medals. Kollam girls Sayona PO (1:01.13s) and her training partner Abigail Arokianathan (1:02.49s) won gold and silver respectively in the U-20 category while Vishnu Priya J (1:02.47s) and Nibka KM (1:06.36s) did an encore in U-18 category.

Lizbeth Karoline Joseph bounced back by winning the gold in girls U-18 triple jump with a distance of 12.35m and Jessan KG soared to 4.70m in the boys U-20 pole vault for the gold medal.

Kerala athletes also dominated the relay events winning three gold, one bronze medals.

In U-20 4x100m, girls completed in 47.72 seconds for the gold while boys clinched gold finishing in 41.55s. In girls U-16 1000m medlay, Kerala took the gold clocking 2:17.64s while in girls U-18 1000m medlay they were pushed to bronze medal with a finish of 2:16.10s.

In girls U-20 heptathlon event, Athira Mohan with 4209 points settled for silver while in shot put, Nelsa Saji brought home a bronze medal with a throw of 12.34m.

For overall title race, Haryana leads with 328 points followed by Kerala (298), UP (247) and Tamil Nadu (204).
