"Winning a hat-trick of gold medals is a surreal feeling. I am usually very composed during medal ceremonies, but began getting emotional when the National Anthem was played on Thursday. This has been my best-ever performance in any competition so far," Anandan told TOI.
Anandan, who trains at the Army Sports Institute in Pune, missed his children the most while preparing for the competition. "I have two-year-old twins who stay with my wife in Kumbakonam. Since I am part of the national camp in Pune, I am away from my family. Once I return to India, I will meet my children - daughter Dakshitha and son Dakshith - and show the medals I have won," said Anandan, who is a subedar at the Madras Engineering Group & Centre.
India have so far garnered seven medals from the event which include six gold and one bronze.
