Real Madrid confirm Kylian Mbappe injury as Barcelona clash and 2026 FIFA World Cup loom large

Real Madrid are facing a big problem at a crucial stage of the season after Kylian Mbappe picked up a fresh injury. The French star suffered a hamstring issue during Madrid’s 1-1 La Liga draw against Real Betis on April 24 and was taken off in the 81st minute, with Gonzalo Garcia replacing him. With El Clasico against Barcelona coming soon and the 2026 FIFA World Cup also getting closer, both club and country are now worried about his fitness.

Real Madrid shared the medical update on April 27 after further tests and confirmed that Mbappe has an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg. However, the club did not give any timeline for his return. That has increased concern because Madrid have only five La Liga matches left, including a huge Clasico clash. Barcelona are currently eleven points ahead, making every remaining match very important for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Kylian Mbappe’s absence could hurt Real Madrid and France at the biggest stage

In their official statement, shared by Real Madrid and reported by The Independent, the club said: “Following the tests carried out on Monday on our player Kylian Mbappe by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg. Awaiting progress.”

This update is a major setback for Real Madrid because Mbappe has been their biggest attacking weapon this season. If he misses El Clasico, Madrid will lose their most dangerous forward in a match that could decide the league title.

Even though the team has struggled in big competitions, Mbappe’s personal season has been excellent. He has scored 41 goals and provided six assists in 41 matches across all competitions. In La Liga alone, he has scored 24 goals and is leading the race for the Pichichi Trophy.

Still, Madrid’s season has not gone as planned. They lost the Supercopa de España final to Barcelona and were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. They also suffered an early Copa del Rey exit against Albacete.
