Olympic star Lindsey Vonn’s knee injury receives public backing from a U.S. representative ahead of the Olympic countdown

Lindsey Vonn encountered a terrifying moment during her Crans-Montana race, just seven days before the Winter Olympics. After a serious crash, Lindsey Vonn, 41, suffered a knee injury and left the course with a knee injury. Concerns about her fitness have increased ever since, but at the same time, athletes like Simone Biles, Coco Gauff, and Allyson Felix have showered her with support. And now a U.S. Representative as well.

Betty Louise McCollum, U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 4th district, responded to a CBS News article on X that reported Vonn’s crash. While growing up in Burnsville, Vonn began skiing on the slopes of Buck Hill. It therefore makes sense that a representative from Minnesota reacted to the injury of the hometown star.

Louise McCollon wrote on X, “I’m wishing Lindsey Vonn a full and speedy recovery from the unfortunate crash that took place earlier today. It’s been a joy for me and all Minnesotans to watch her compete throughout her Olympic career, and I hope to see her recover in time to compete in Italy next week.”


Coming from her, the encouragement felt especially significant, given the seriousness of the crash. Overcast skies, low visibility, and overnight freezing temperatures made the Mont Lachaux track considerably faster and more difficult for racers. Early in the race, even skiers like Marte Monsen of Norway and Nina Ortlieb of Austria struggled with crashes, which ultimately led to the event's cancellation. But Vonn’s crash was particularly horrific by all means.

Vonn remained unconscious for a few minutes as medical personnel treated her. After that, she was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital for further treatment. Just a few hours after the crash, Vonn posted on social media, “This is a very difficult outcome one week before the Olympics… but if there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s a comeback. My Olympic dream is not over.”

Simone Biles wrote, “Sending love, babes,” to Vonn on social media. “If anyone can do this, it’s you,” commented Mikaela Shiffrin, one of the top U.S. alpine skiers and a close pal of Vonn in the sport. Even tennis player Coco Gauff sent Vonn a simple message, saying, “Get well soon.”
