Conor McGregor “deletes” confirmed comeback post on X as White House UFC card rumours grow
Conor McGregor sent MMA fans into chaos after briefly announcing his return to the UFC. On Wednesday, the Irish fighter posted on X that he had been offered a fight and agreed to it. The message stayed online only for a few minutes before being removed. However, by that time, the screenshots of the tweet had gone viral on social media. The post did not name an opponent or a date, but it strongly suggested negotiations were nearly complete.
The timing quickly fueled speculation. UFC CEO Dana White recently spoke about a historic summer event planned on the lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C. White later clarified the card was planned but not finalized. McGregor has openly pushed to appear on that show. The former champion has not fought since 2021 and becomes eligible to compete again on March 20 after serving an anti-doping suspension.
Conor McGregor’s deleted message stated that the UFC presented him with both an opponent and a fight date, and he had agreed while waiting for paperwork. The wording indicated talks were advanced, even though the promotion has not officially confirmed anything.
Many fighters have been mentioned as possible rivals. Michael Chandler remains the leading option. The two were supposed to meet in June 2024 before McGregor withdrew with a broken toe. Fans have also discussed Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal, and Colby Covington. Diaz recently expressed interest in a third fight, and McGregor hinted online that he would welcome that matchup.
The 37-year-old last appeared at UFC 264 in July 2021. He lost to Dustin Poirier after breaking his leg in the opening round. Since then, injuries, filming commitments, and anti-doping issues delayed his return.
The White House UFC card has created massive buzz online. Big names such as Jon Jones, Alex Pereira, and Tom Aspinall are also linked to the event. McGregor has repeatedly pushed to headline it, partly due to his public relationship with Donald Trump.
For now, the UFC has confirmed no fights for the upcoming White House UFC card for the United States of America's celebration of 250 years. Still, the quick deletion of Conor McGregor’s post has now convinced many fans and critics that his long-awaited comeback is finally close!
