BANGALORE: Four hockey players from Karnataka who were part of the Indian team which won the Asian Champions Trophy will be given cash awards of Rs 5 lakh apiece by the state government.
Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda congratulated the triumphant team and said the four players -- VR Raghunath, Bharat Chetri, Ignace Tirkey and SV Sunil will be rewarded for their efforts.

"I am happy that the Indian hockey team has won the Asian Champions Trophy. This victory has come as a morale booster to the Indian Team and will act as a catalyst," he added.
Reacting to the gesture, Raghunath said the award will help the players perform better. "It has come as a huge boost to us. We will now strive to help the country qualify for the Olympics."
