Dan Ticktum denies blame for Monaco E-Prix clash with Antonio Felix da Costa, calls his message “immature”

In a rare achievement, Cupra Kiro driver Dan Ticktum claimed pole position on both days of the Monaco E-Prix double-header, but failed to convert either into strong finishes. Instead, he lost a podium due to a race penalty for forcing da Costa into the chicane. Da Costa later expressed his frustration over the incident, but Ticktum has now denied responsibility. He also opened up about receiving what he described as a rude message from the Porsche driver and said he hopes to repair their relationship.

Referring to the penalty Dan Ticktum received in Round 9, Ticktum told Motorsport.comm “Look, I do see where they’re [the stewards] coming from, but only to a tiny extent, and the people in da Costa’s corner.”

Ticktum rejected da Costa’s claim that he moved under braking. “Yes, I was wandering over, but he also had more than enough room to go down the inside. He just threw it up the inside, braked so late, lost control of the rear and then hit me. So, yeah, I don’t think that one was my fault. I really don’t,” he added.

Ticktum’s third-place finish was later handed to his Cupra Kiro team-mate Pepe Marti, who had originally crossed the line in fourth place in Round 9. Da Costa was hit by Ticktum on Day 1 and then again by Edoardo Mortara on Day 2. Despite the incidents, da Costa managed to finish third in Round 10.

Dan Ticktum also revealed that Antonio Felix da Costa appeared upset with him after their Round 9 collision. “He messaged me something quite immature, really [after Race 1]. He just said I was driving like a maniac and I wrote him a nice message. I’ve always had a lot of respect for the guy. And like I say, I haven’t had a chance to congratulate him for today, but obviously a good job from him,” he told the outlet.

“I hope there’s no animosity between us. Like I say, I’ve always had big respect for him and looked up to him throughout my career. So, yeah, hopefully we’ll put it behind us,” he added.

Despite taking double pole positions in Monaco, Ticktum could only manage 12th and 14th-place finishes in Rounds 9 and 10 due to penalties. The Briton currently sits 14th in the Formula E Drivers’ Championship standings.
