NEW DELHI: Barcelona's attempts to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the remainder of the season have faced significant hurdles, leading to a potential departure of the players.

The club took their case to Spain's High Council for Sports on Saturday after La Liga and the Spanish football federation (RFEF) denied their registration requests.

The issue stems from Barcelona's financial and administrative constraints, which initially prevented the registration of Olmo and Victor beyond 2024.

Despite registering Olmo last summer by utilising an injury exemption, the club lost two court cases seeking an extension of their registrations until the end of the season.

In an effort to resolve the situation, Barcelona reportedly sold VIP seats at the future Camp Nou to generate funds and increase their budget, allowing for the players' registrations.

However, the joint commission handling the applications denied the licenses due to RFEF rules prohibiting the registration of a player whose license has been previously cancelled within the same season.

Barcelona have stated their intention to appeal the decision at the High Council for Sports. Club president Joan Laporta has faced criticism for his handling of the affair and has spoken with Olmo and Victor to reassure them.

Notably, Olmo's contract reportedly includes a clause allowing him to leave if he cannot be registered.

The absence of Olmo and Victor from Barcelona's squad for the Copa del Rey tie against Barbastro highlights the uncertainty surrounding their futures at the club.

The situation stresses the complex financial and administrative challenges Barcelona are navigating as they seek to retain their star players while adhering to the regulations set forth by La Liga and the RFEF.
