KOLKAA:
Aizawl FC
on Tuesday released their full squad for the upcoming season of the
I-League
to be held entirely in West Bengal from January 9. The 30-man squad includes three foreigners while the rest of the squad belongs from the state of
Mizoram.
Alfred Jaryan
and
Richard Kassaga
have been retained from the last season while
Princewill Emeka Olariche
from Nigeria is the new signing.
Emeka played for TRAU FC last season and scored three goals in 15 appearances in the I-League. He also played a pivotal role in helping TRAU win the I-league second division in the season before that. Apart from TRAU FC, he has plied his trade in NEROCA FC and Kolkata club Mohammedan Sporting.
Meanwhile, Stanley Rozario will continue to coach the team from the northeast that won the I-League title in the 2016-17 season. Rozario was down with Covid-19 early in the year but has recovered after spending considerable time in the hospital. He will now hope to see the team put on a better show this season after they finished a lowly 10th last season that was cut short abruptly due to the raging pandemic.
Aizawl will play their first match on the opening day of the tournament itself when they will face Punjab FC at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium.
Meanwhile, because of the ongoing pandemic, all the players, support staff, officials and the referees will be operating from inside a bio-bubble.
