Gokulam Kerala FC will take on an exhausted Aizawl FC in the I-league match at EMS Corporation Stadium, Kozhikode on Saturday. Aizawl, who are reeling at seventh spot in the points table will be playing their fourth game in a gap of 13 days.
And Gokulam would be hoping to pounce on the weariness of the Aizawl side.
Mohammedan SC posted a surprise 6-4 win over table-toppers Sreenidhi Deccan on Friday and this result has kept Gokulam Kerala's title hopes alive. But a defeat on Saturday will end Gokulam's hopes of a hattrick of I-League titles and an ISL spot. When asked about Gokulam's title hopes, coach Francesc Bonet said that he is concentrating more on winning the next match and preparing the team for the Super Cup. “We are happy to be back here. We have come here with two away wins and now we have to show how strong we are at home. We want to win in front of our home fans,” said Bonet.
Striker Jobby Justin too echoed the same sentiments of his coach. "We have to win the remaining matches and get maximum points available. The Super Cup is there and we need to prepare for the tournament," he said.
Meanwhile, Gokulam’s opponents Aizawl are having a lean patch. They have reached Kozhikode after three back-to-back defeats and will be looking to return to winning ways against Gokulam. "We have good, young and exciting players. However, we have been a little unlucky when it came to converting our chances,” said Aizawl head coach Caetano Pinho.
