East Bengal club
has decided to take the initiative of serving the society in its own way.
The club has announced that it will soon launch its own brand of hand sanitizers along with masks to join "the fight against the pandemic."
The move will be part of the club's centenary year celebrations. According to a senior club official, both the sanitizers and masks will have the club's centenary logo imprinted on them.
"We are going through a time when the likes of sanitizers and masks have become parts of daily life. This is why, the club has taken up this initiative," said club official Debabrata Sarkar. "As a supporters-based club, we have some responsibilities towards the betterment of society. As our centenary celebrations will be heavily impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, we'll try to celebrate the occasion with these initiatives," he added.
According to Sarkar, a total of 1.5 lakh masks, bearing the club's centenary logo, will be made available and these will be distributed free of cost.
The hand sanitizers, on the other hand, will cost less than Rs 50 each.
"The special hand sanitizers will be available from the club tent in the Maidan from the next week itself. The masks will also be available at the club tent," Sarkar pointed out.
Although the club administration has decided to distribute the first 1.5 lakh of masks free, they may charge "a minimal price" if demands for more masks continue.
Meanwhile, the club has also decided to set up a relief centre at the Esplanade area in Kolkata to help the people, affected by last month's super cyclone
