KOLKATA: Aizawl FC coach Stanley Rosario has tested positive for Covid-19 and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bengaluru.
"Our head coach Mr Henry Stanley Rosario has tested positive for Covid-19 and has shown symptoms like fever and cough. He has been admitted to a hospital for further treatment. We pray and wish him a speedy and full recovery," read the official statement from Aizawl FC on a social networking site.
According to club secretary Pu Nghaka, the coach was having mild fever, severe cough and tiredness for the last one week.
He went to a private hospital in Bengaluru on Tuesday for check-up and there he got tested and was found to be Covid-19 positive," said Nghaka.
Although he was asked to get admitted to a hospital immediately, he had to wait until the next day for a bed. While his condition has not improved, it also has not deteriorated. Meanwhile, his daughter has also tested positive but is asymptomatic and is in home quarantine. The results of his wife and son’s tests are awaited.
Bengaluru saw a spike in Covid-19 cases on Thursday as 3799 cases were recorded in the city that brought the total number of cases to the 2-lakh mark. As far as Karnataka is concerned, the total number of cases is near the 5-lakh mark.
The coach, who has been busy building the team since last month, had made a host of signings for the upcoming I-League season that is slated to be held in Kolkata entirely.
While the team fared poorly during the last season, the coach was hopeful of doing well this season and was currently on the lookout for another foreign player to be included in the Asian quota.
