NEW DELHI: Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin etched his name in history by scoring his 50th Premier League goal, securing a 1-0 victory for Everton against West Ham United. The victory not only earned Everton three vital points but also distanced them from the relegation zone.
Calvert-Lewin's historic goal arrived in the 51st minute when he exhibited exquisite control on the edge of the box and unleashed a precise low shot that skidded off the wet turf at the London Stadium, ultimately eluding the grasp of West Ham's goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
With the win, Everton catapulted to 15th place in the Premier League table, amassing 10 points from 10 games. This victory afforded them a five-point cushion above the relegation zone. In contrast, West Ham finds themselves in ninth place with 14 points, enduring their third consecutive loss in all competitions.
The match saw Everton fashion the more promising opportunities, with West Ham's Jarrod Bowen squandering two of his side's best chances. Everton's dogged defensive performance featured standout displays from Jarrad Branthwaite in central defense and Amadou Onana, who exuded dominance in midfield.
Having played on Thursday in Greece and suffering a 2-1 defeat to Olympiakos, West Ham appeared lethargic at times and displayed uncharacteristic sloppiness in possession. It wasn't until the final 20 minutes of the match that they appeared reinvigorated, desperately pursuing an equalizer.
Midway through the first half, Bowen had an excellent opportunity to put West Ham in front, but after an exquisite setup by Lucas Paqueta, he uncharacteristically missed the target.

Jack Harrison when Everton embarked on a three-on-one counterattack. Inexplicably, Harrison opted to shoot instead of playing it to Calvert-Lewin or Abdoulaye Doucoure on either side. His effort proved feeble, providing an easy save for goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Bowen then squandered another opportunity, heading the ball over the crossbar from a free-kick. Merely three minutes later, Calvert-Lewin marked his place in Premier League history.
Branthwaite initiated the sequence with a resounding tackle and a forward pass. A quick one-two between Harrison and Calvert-Lewin culminated in the latter executing a splendid turn on the edge of the box. Calvert-Lewin expertly took a touch and fired the ball low into the net, breaking the deadlock.
Areola made a heroic save to thwart Doucoure, and Everton's resolute defense endured relentless West Ham pressure in the final 30 minutes. West Ham, however, failed to find a breakthrough, and their goalless outing marked their first scoreless game of the season.
