Kane had suffered a hamstring injury before the lockdown and is slowly finding his feet once again. The England striker will hope to build on his performance in the coming weeks and ensure a strong finish to the season.

“When you’ve been out for over six months it’s about getting that feeling back on the pitch,” he told reporters after the match.

“I’m in good shape. I’ve been working very hard. I feel as good as I’ve ever done.”

Tottenham Hotspur

manager Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, admitted that their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season would have been over had they not beaten West Ham United.

The victory took Tottenham to seventh place with 45 points from 31 matches. Relegation-threatened West Ham, meanwhile, languishing at 17th in the table with just 27 points from 31 games.

“First of all, three points were not important, they were crucial,” Mourinho said. “I said to the players, ‘Don’t think if we don’t win this match, we can still think about chances’. it was three points or nothing.

“We were too slow and predictable in the first half but we were stronger and more intense in the second half,” the Portuguese manager added.

It was Tottenham’s first win in eight matches in all competitions, and they will now have to ensure that they get on a winning run to put pressure on the teams ahead of them in the race for the Champions League spots.
