Chelsea's hopes of topping the Premier League were dashed in a goalless draw against Everton at a windswept Goodison Park on Sunday. Striker Nicolas Jackson's close-range header hit the post, denying Chelsea a crucial victory.

The challenging weather conditions affected both teams. However, both sides had opportunities to secure a win.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford thwarted Jackson from point-blank range, contributing to Everton's fifth clean sheet in six matches.

At the opposite end, Chelsea's goalkeeper Robert Sanchez saved a shot from Jack Harrison. Ilaman Ndiaye's goal-bound attempt was blocked by Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo. Everton's performance was notable, with new executive chairman Marc Watts present.

Chelsea remains in second place with 35 points. This puts them one point behind leaders Liverpool, but having played two more games. Everton moved up to 15th position with 16 points from 16 games. They are now four points clear of the relegation zone.

The draw halted Chelsea's winning streak of eight consecutive victories across all competitions, including five straight wins in the Premier League. Their attacking output was limited, managing only five shots on goal, most lacking power.

This match marked Everton's first game since the Friedkin Group's acquisition midweek. The home team demonstrated considerable effort in front of their passionate supporters.

Early in the match, Pickford produced an outstanding save to deny Jackson from close range. Malo Gusto then headed over the bar from the rebound with an open goal.

Jackson missed another opportunity, hitting the woodwork with a header from close range after a corner found its way to him.

Orel Mangala forced a good save from Sanchez, who dived to his right to stop a low shot from the edge of the box.

Harrison missed a clear chance when Ndiaye found him in space at the back post. Sanchez made another excellent save to keep the score level.

Chelsea were indebted to Tosin Adarabioyo for a crucial block. He denied Ndiaye from close range in what proved to be the last significant chance of the game.

Pickford made a superb save to deny Jackson at point-blank range early on, before Malo Gusto headed over the bar from the rebound with the goal gaping.

Jackson should have scored at the back post after a corner reached him through a sea of bodies, but his header from all of a yard came back off the woodwork.

At the other end, Orel Mangala forced a fine save from Sanchez, who went sprawling to his right with a low shot from the edge of the box.

Harrison should of scored when he was put into acres of space at the back post by Ndiaye, but Sanchez again made an excellent stop.

Chelsea were then grateful for a superb block from defender Tosin Adarabioyo to deny Ndiaye from four yards, the last big chance in the game.
