Vaibhav Suryavanshi explodes in Dubai: 14-year-old slams 56-ball century to power India’s U-19 Asia Cup charge vs UAE
NEW DELHI: India’s newest teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a jaw-dropping display of power-hitting as he blasted a 56-ball century against the United Arab Emirates in the opening match of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup in Dubai on Friday. The 14-year-old, already considered one of the brightest batting talents of his generation, turned a shaky start into a ruthless assault that left UAE stunned and propelled India into total control.

Put into bat by UAE skipper Yayin Rai, India were rattled early when captain Ayush Mhatre departed for just 4 in the third over. At 8/1, the innings needed stability — and firepower. Vaibhav provided both.
After a cautious start, he shifted gears with trademark flamboyance. His half-century arrived in spectacular style, launching Shalom D’Souza over the ropes to bring up his 30-ball fifty. What followed was a masterclass in fearless hitting. Vaibhav forged a commanding 150-run stand with Aaron George, taking apart the UAE attack with a mix of clean lofted strokes and brutal power.

Once past his fifty, the youngster went into overdrive. Sixes began to flow “at will,” as he dismantled spinners and pacers alike. He eventually raced to his hundred off just 56 balls — a blistering innings decorated with nine sixes and five fours — announcing himself once again as a generational batting prodigy.
Riding on Vaibhav’s carnage, India surged from 8/1 to 158/1 in just 20.2 overs when he reached his hundred, completely seizing momentum in their tournament opener.
By the time he reached 150 off just 84 balls, Suryavanshi had already rewritten the record books. He first eclipsed Afghanistan’s Darwish Rasooli’s previous U-19 Asia Cup record of 10 sixes in a single innings, set in 2017, and shortly after, surpassed Rasooli’s overall tournament record of 22 sixes. Suryavanshi’s tally now stands at 26, and the tournament has barely begun.
His monumental 171 is also the second-highest score by an Indian in U-19 ODIs, trailing only Ambati Rayudu’s unbeaten 177 against England in 2002.
In a competition where young talents aim to make a mark, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already lit up Dubai — and India’s U-19 campaign has begun with a thunderous statement.
