MUMBAI: Scoring his second half-century in the match, Assam skipper Gokul Sharma (82, 136b, 14x4) and Roshan Alam (42 not out, 38b, 9x4) delayed the inevitable with their whirlwind 75-run partnership for the ninth wicket in just 83 balls, but it didn't take too long for Mumbai 4 to complete the last rites on the morning of Day 4.
The domestic giants wrapped up a massive innings & 128-run victory over a listless Assam in their Elite Group B Ranji Trophy match at the Amingaon Stadium in Guwahati.
Resuming at 36 for 5, the hosts slipped in further quagmire at 98 for 8 by the 29th over, before the seasoned Gokul, who scored 73 in the first innings, and Alam, using the long handle to good effect, put on a gallant stand to delay Mumbai's celebrations.
The partnership was finally broken when young left-arm spinning all-rounder Musheer Khan, bowling his first over in the innings, had Gokul caught by Armaan Jaffer. It was Musheer's maiden wicket in first-class cricket. Managing to bat for just 45 overs in their second innings, Assam finished at 189.
