KOLKATA:
Mohun Bagan picked up the second trophy of season by thrashing
Kalighat Club
by 99 runs to win the CAB first division One Day Championship playoff final at the Eden Gardens on Thursday. Bagan piled up 346 for six after electing to bat first riding on Vivek Singh (76), Manoj Tiwary (61) and Debabrata Das (78*) half-centuries. Later pacer
Sourav Mondal
bagged three wickets for 39 runs to bundle Kalighat out for 247 runs in 41.3 overs. Kalighat skipper
Abhimanyu Easwarn
hit 87.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Vivek put up a 74-run partnership with
Sudip Chatterjee
(31) while Bengal skipper Tiwary added 73 runs with Writtick Chatterjee (26) after Bagan lost opener Jayojit Basu early.
But it was former Bengal player Das who tilted the match in Bagan's favour with a blistering unbeaten 78 that came off just 32 balls. The middle-order batsman hit five sixes and eight boundaries to boost Bagan total.
Kalighat suffered early setback as they lost both openers in first two overs that reduced them to 10 for two. Easwaran put up a fight with a well-made 87 facing 82 deliveries. Subham Chatterjee (48) gave him good support but once Easwaran fell to Rajkumar Paul and Chatterjee was claimed by Tuhin Banerjee, Kalighat lost the way.
Bagan had earlier won the JC Mukherjee (T20) trophy.
