Chasing a mammoth 237 runs, Kochi Blue Tigers needed seventeen runs from the last over.
Muhammad Ashik kept the fight alive by smashing the first two balls for a four and a six. But bowler Sharafuddeen held his nerve in the next three deliveries, conceding just one bye, while Alfi Francis John was run out.
With six required off the final ball, Muhammad Ashik dug deep into the crease and lofted one straight over the bowler’s head to seal the game for his team. He remained unbeaten on 45 off 18 balls, laced with three fours and five sixes.
Earlier, Sanju Samson had sent the bowlers on a leather hunt with his swashbuckling 121 off just 51 balls, an innings studded with 14 fours and seven sixes.
