NEW DELHI: Gujarat secured a spot in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals with a commanding nine-wicket victory over Himachal Pradesh in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Outstanding half-centuries from Aarya Desai and Jaymeet Patel, coupled with effective bowling led by spinner Siddharth Desai helped Gujarat storm into quarters.
Gujarat's bowling attack proved decisive as Desai bagged four wickets, while Vishal Jayswal took three and Jaymeet Patel added two. They restricted Himachal Pradesh to 175 in 62.5 overs on the third day.
Prashant Chopra stood out for Himachal Pradesh with a determined 61 off 151 balls. However, his teammates struggled against Gujarat's spin attack, setting a target of 144 runs.
Gujarat's chase began with an early setback as Urvil Patel departed for 25. However, Aarya Desai and Jaymeet Patel took control with an unbroken 114-run partnership, completing the victory in just 22.3 overs.
Desai's aggressive innings of 59 included five fours and six sixes off 57 balls.
Jaymeet Patel contributed 51 runs from 68 deliveries, featuring six boundaries.
The victory earned Gujarat 31 points in Group B, placing them second behind Vidarbha's 34 points.
Himachal Pradesh finished third with 21 points.
Andhra win by 6 wickets Andhra secured a six-wicket victory over Rajasthan in Vizianagaram with standout performances from Tripurana Vijay and Ricky Bhui on day three.
Rajasthan, starting at 95 for 7, could only add 19 runs to their second innings total.
Vijay dominated with five wickets, setting Andhra a target of 152.
Bhui led the chase with an impressive 62 runs off 76 balls, including two sixes and seven fours.
KS Bharat contributed 43 runs from 59 balls, while Kirdant Karan Shinde added 35 runs from 32 balls. Andhra successfully reached 157 for 4 in 31 overs.
