India vs New Zealand 1st Test, Day 1 Highlights: Shreyas Iyer-Ravindra Jadeja century stand takes India to 258/4 at stumps

Kyle Jamieson pitched the ball in right areas to strike thrice as New Zealand pegged India back, restricting them to 154 for four at tea on the first day of the Kanpur Test after skipper Ajinkya Rahane and his deputy Cheteshwar Pujara failed to convert their starts. Jamieson (3/38), who picked up Mayank Agarwal in the opening session, removed a well-set Shubman Gill (52) and Rahane (35) in the afternoon, using the variable bounce to good effect. Cheteshwar Pujara (26) was done in by a beauty from Tim Southee that reversed in and then shaped away to reach Tom Blundell gloves. Funnily, on a track that kept low and slow and didn't offer much turn, New Zealand spinners Ajaz Patel (0/56 in 15 overs) and Will Somerville (0/28 in 13 overs) were disappointing. But Rahane would be gutted as he hit six lovely boundaries before dragging one in as he expected the ball to bounce more considering Jamieson's height. Before that Gill, who hit a sublime fifty, had a big gap between bat and pad which helped Jamieson's in-cutter breach his defence. Debutant Shreyas Iyer (17 batting) looked confident in that brief period before tea.

That's it! Rachin Ravindra completes the final over before the Tea break. A wonderful session for New Zealand as they chip in with three big wickets in the session. They will feel really nice going into the break. India were 82/1 when they resumed after Lunch but then lost set Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane in the post Lunch session. Debutant Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja are currently in the middle, batting on 17 and 6 respectively. Kyle Jamieson picked up a couple of wickets in the session, taking his tally to three while Tim Southee also got rid of Pujara in the session.

A probing over from William Somerville comes to an end. Shreyas Iyer survived an LBW review call in it and then took a single off the last ball to bring up India's 150! New Zealand bowlers continue to build pressure on the Indian batsmen.

Kyle Jamieson strikes again! Claims his third wicket. Ajinkya Rahane survived a caught behind call on the previous ball with the help of a review but on the very next delivery, he chops the ball straight back onto his stumps. Rahane was looking good on 35 but unfortunately he has got to go back. New Zealand continue to chip in with regular wickets in this second session on Day 1. IND 145/4 after 49.2overs

The first hour of the second session done and New Zealand have got two crucial wickets of Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara in this period. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane (19*) and debutant Shreyas Iyer (7*) are in the middle at the moment for India.

A huge LBW appeal from Tim Southee and slip cordon and Kane Williamson goes for the review. Ball-tracking confirms that the impact was outside the line and it also hit the bat before hitting Rahane's pad. On-field decision stays and New Zealand lose a review. Rahane survives!
