BENGALURU: Rising pacer Prasidh Krishna turned out to be the top draw among Karnataka players on the opening day of the

IPL auction

here on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, with a base price of Rs 1 crore, generated a lot of interest among the franchises. Lucknow Super Giants were the first to raise the paddle with Rajasthan Royals following them. Gujarat Titans too had a go but Royals were firm and welcomed Prasidh at a whopping price of Rs 10 crore.

“Super excited to be a part of this family. Looking forward to playing some good cricket in one of my favourite cities,” said Prasidh in a social media post.

Royal Challengers Bangalore looked to buy back opener

Devdutt Padikkal

but he proved unaffordable for them as Royals and Mumbai Indians upped his price tag before the former shelled out Rs 7.75 crore for the southpaw. Royals also roped in spinner KC Cariappa (Rs 30 lakh).

The other big gainer from Karnataka was rookie Abhinav Manohar. The 27-year-old, find of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, made it to his maiden IPL team with Gujarat Titans outbidding Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders and shelling out Rs 2.6 crore for the middle-order batsman who had a base price of Rs 20 lakh.

For a moment when Karnataka skipper Manish Pandey's name came up, there was no move made from any of the tables. But his former team Sunrisers Hyderabad were the first to bid but Pandey was eventually bought by Lucknow for Rs 4.6 crore.

While RCB showed little interest in the Karnataka players, it wasn’t the case with teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad, who welcomed the spin duo of Shreyas Gopal (Rs 75 lakh) and J Suchith (Rs 20 lakh).

When franchises regroup for the final day of the auction, the players from state who will go under the hammer include K Gowtham, Pravin Dubey, Karun Nair and Vidhyadhar Patil.
