NEW DELHI: Yash Thakur emerged as the hero for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their recent Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Gujarat Titans, guiding his team to a resounding 33-run victory. Thakur's sensational performance, which included a match-winning five-wicket haul, drew praise from all quarters.
Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, Thakur revealed his cricketing idols, citing Indian speedster Umesh Yadav and former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni. Thakur expressed his admiration for Yadav, hailing him as his inspiration to pursue fast bowling.
"My idol is Umesh Yadav, from my city. I started to practice fast bowling because of him. When I got to play against him, I got to learn a lot. He is very humble. Even if I call him at 12 at night, he will help me," Thakur shared in a video posted by IPL.
Furthermore, Thakur acknowledged Dhoni's influence on his game, particularly admiring the legendary batter's ability to finish matches. "Also, my other idol is MS Dhoni. The way he finishes his matches with the bat, I want to do it with the ball. He has a great game sense," Thakur added.
In the post-match presentation, Thakur dedicated his phenomenal five-wicket haul to his late father, fulfilling a dream cherished by his dad. Expressing gratitude towards his family for their unwavering support throughout his cricketing journey, Thakur credited them for his success.
