'Picture abhi baki hai': Not the end of the road for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma?
Former Team India all-rounder Irfan Pathan praised Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli following their match-winning partnership, emphasizing that the veteran players still have more to offer.
Rohit and Kohli overcame their initial struggles from the first two ODIs, which India had lost, by dominating the Australian bowlers during their chase of 237 runs. Rohit remained unbeaten with 121 runs, while Kohli contributed 74 not out.
"The way things unfolded today, it felt like it was meant to be. Nothing could be better than watching both these great players (Virat and Rohit) finish the match together. Virat needed around 70-74 runs in this game to maintain an average of 50 in Australia, and he made exactly that," Irfan Pathan said on JioStar.
"If this isn't poetic justice, then what is? Rohit worked so hard, he reduced weight, put in the effort, and his improved fitness showed when he quickly recovered from that run-out in the second match. Both have shown that 'picture abhi baki hai mere dost' (the best is yet to come, my friend)."
Australia chose to bat first after winning the toss.
Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head started strongly with a 61-run partnership. Marsh scored 41 runs from 50 balls, while Head made 29 runs from 25 balls.
Matt Short scored 30 runs, and a partnership between Matt Renshaw and Alex Carey added 59 runs. Renshaw contributed 56 runs, while Carey made 24.
Australia's innings ended at 236 all out in 46.4 overs. Harshit Rana took four wickets, Washington Sundar claimed two, while Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav each took one wicket.
India's chase began well with Shubman Gill scoring 24 runs in a 69-run opening partnership.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli then formed an unbeaten 168-run partnership. Rohit scored 121 not out from 125 balls, while Kohli made 74 not out from 81 balls, leading India to victory with nine wickets remaining.
Rohit received both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards for his total of 202 runs, including a century and a fifty.
