NEW DELHI: Batting maestro Virat Kohli was at his animated best on Day 1 of the Perth Test, displaying his signature aggression and intensity on Friday.
The former Indian skipper’s fiery energy was on full display as he engaged in passionate appeals and wicket celebrations after the fall of every Australian wicket, while also leading by example with his commitment on the field.

His animated body language and sharp focus highlighted his competitive spirit, energising the Indian team. Whether it was his vocal support for his bowlers or his on-field presence, Kohli’s intensity set the tone for India’s challenge in the five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener.

India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah would have regretted his choice to bat first, as Australia's seasoned pace bowlers dismissed his team for a mere 150 runs.
However, Bumrah (4-17) delivered an intense fast bowling performance in the day's final session, successfully removing three of Australia's top four batters within the first seven overs.
The Australian side concluded the day at 67-7, facing a deficit of 83 runs on a dramatic day that saw 17 wickets fall. They now risk scoring lower than their previous lowest total against India, which stands at 83 from 1981.
