NEW DELHI: The jubilant celebrations for Australia's record sixth World Cup title have commenced as Pat Cummins, leading the victorious Australian team, posed with the coveted trophy on a Sabarmati river cruise boat in Ahmedabad. The festivities follow Australia's impressive six-wicket triumph over the previously unbeaten Indian side at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
Pat Cummins, captaining the Australian team, led the players in celebrating their remarkable achievement with a river cruise on the Sabarmati on Monday. Cummins, holding the World Cup trophy, captured the essence of the victory against the backdrop of a serene yet vibrant environment.
Expressing his ecstasy after the victory, Cummins acknowledged that the team saved their best for the final game, stating, "I think we saved our best for last. Couple of big match players stood up, and we're pretty stuffed. We've been batting first pretty much for the whole tournament. Today we thought, it's a good night to chase down, we thought it might actually get a little bit easier. Everyone was pretty keen to get out there. This year will be remembered for a long, long time, and we had a lot of success over the winter, and this one peaks it all. At the top of the mountain."
Head breaks India hearts as Australia win sixth World Cup title
In the World Cup final, India posted a score of 240 in 50 overs, with notable contributions from skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. Mitchell Starc, with figures of 3/55, emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Australia. Captains Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, along with Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell, made significant bowling contributions.
During the chase, India had Australia struggling at 47/3. However, knocks from Travis Head (137 in 120 balls) and Marnus Labuschagne (58 in 110 balls) guided Australia to a decisive six-wicket victory.
The focus now shifts to a five-match T20I series between the World Cup finalists, set to commence on Thursday in Visakhapatnam, as the cricketing excitement continues.
