NEW DELHI: Shreyas Iyer showcased his prowess by notching up his maiden World Cup century, propelling India to a massive 410/4 in the final league match against the Netherlands on Sunday.
In Bengaluru, where India opted to bat first in their quest for a perfect record of nine wins in as many matches, Iyer's standout performance was part of an innings where all of India's top five batsmen achieved scores of 50 or more.
Iyer, at the age of 28, reached the century milestone - his fourth in One Day International cricket - taking just 84 balls.
He remained unbeaten on 128 off just 94 balls. His innings was embellished with 10 boundaries and five sixes, contributing significantly to India's second highest total for India in World Cups.
Iyer's ton is the first by India's no.4 batter in World Cups since Yuvraj Singh's 113 runs against West Indies at Chennai in 2011 edition.
