NEW DELHI: Netherlands batsman Teja Nidamanuru, despite a challenging World Cup campaign, sees his experience of playing against Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja as a valuable lesson for his growth as a consistent top-flight batsman. Nidamanuru, who showcased his talent with a brisk 54 against India, acknowledges the challenge of playing spin under pressure and aims to enhance his skills, especially in releasing pressure during middle-overs spin operations.
"It was a lesson. Playing spin when it's turning and being able to do that when under pressure has been a challenge. It's one thing being able to do it against teams at a lower intensity," said Nidamanuru after Netherlands' 160-run defeat against India.
The right-hander with roots in Vijayawada recognizes the need to handle pressure in the middle overs when facing quality spinners. Reflecting on Ravindra Jadeja's accuracy, Nidamanuru emphasises the importance of converting good deliveries into singles to relieve pressure.
Nidamanuru showcased his skills by hitting Kuldeep for a six over cover with an inside-out shot, expressing his intention to work on such aspects consistently. He acknowledges Kuldeep's world-class status and his efforts to study the spinner's variations.
While terming the match against India as a great learning experience despite the defeat, Nidamanuru emphasises the gap in execution and skill between the teams. He highlights the difference in approach during the middle overs, citing Shreyas Iyer's innings as an example.
"If you look at how Shreyas played as compared to how we approached the middle stages, you could see the difference. We're looking forward to de-briefing and to continue our evolution overall," noted the 29-year-old, emphasising the importance of refining skills and adapting to the demands of top-level cricket.
